In a Sunburned Country

I just finished reading In a Sunburned Country by Bill Bryson. I love this man's books. He is a wearied traveler yet also always excited to see something new. His bumbling nature gets him into trouble where ever he goes (although he didn't have too much trouble in Australia). Mr. Bryson travels to Australia and navigates his way around the country. He does the normal sightseeing stuff, but also travels a little off the beaten path. As he travels, he illuminates us with some of Australia's history. I had never given thougth to the fact that in America we never really hear news about this continent. TV and Newspapers cover every other continent, but we never really hear anything about Austrailia. What's up with that? I also had no idea that there were so many dangerous critters in Australia. Or that the people were so friendly. Or that Queenslanders have a reputation for being a little off. Absorbing as all of Bryson's books are, I was disappointed in one aspect. There was not a lot on the topic of Aborigines. It was covered a tad bit, and I guess that is fair, because that is how they are treated (or ignored as the case may be). The forgotten people indeed. A great read. Happy reading! Bookworm Teri

Welcome To Me

Alright, since this is brand new, I would like introduce myself. I am a super avid reader, reading an average of two to three books a week. I am a single mother who is also trying to newly navigate my way through the dating scene (although I think I am being semi-successful at that). I hope to blog at least a little about each book I read, but I can't promise to keep up. I read a little bit of everything so don't expect me to just talk about romance novels or one single genre. Hope to hear from you soon and hope to be read soon. Happy reading to all my geeky friends!
